Movistar launched a streaming service in Mexico

The company’s investment in Mexico and the rest of Latin America was 100 million euros.

The Spanish communications company Telefónica launched its Movistar Play streaming platform in Mexico with an offer that includes both on-demand and live television content, depending on the package purchased by the user. Movistar included contents from Netflix, Discovery, Disney, Fox, Viacom, and TV Azteca.

According to statements by Paula Figueroa, director of the video unit of Telefónica Movistar Latin America, the company’s investment in Mexico and the rest of Latin America was 100 million euros, which includes the production of content and the alliances with the producers.

Movistar’s platform introduced Movistar Series, where the company makes available to the user series produced by the company in alliance with different creators such as La Casa de Papel. Among the titles that make up the catalog are La Peste, Arde Madrid, Virtual Hero, and El Embarcadero.

Plans for all budgets

For those users with a postpaid plan of more than 369 Mexican pesos (20 USD), access to the platform will be included at no additional cost while those who enjoy the unlimited Movistar plan will be able to see all the content they want without fear of spending data.

Another advantage of the service is that it has a catalog of movies to rent for more than 300 fixed titles. The films cost between 25 and 99 pesos, and the user can access to them for 48 hours.

Currently, the platform offers five pricing plans that fit the budget of each user. The difference between each plan is in the services and channels available.

Another relevant service is the option of subscribing Netflix directly from the app charged to the Movistar bill.
